About your host
Born and raised in Northern Ireland, I embarked on my journey in 1992 to explore my passion for travel. Over the next eleven years, I gained extensive experience working globally within the cruise ship industry, which led me to discover Mexico. When it came time to establish permanent roots, Mexico stood out as the ideal location due to its natural beauty and the warmth of its people. Initially, I settled in Puerto Vallarta and after four years as a co-broker at a real estate firm, I realized that the summer humidity was overwhelming.
During a New Year's break in Guadalajara, I visited Ajijic and was deeply impressed by the welcoming nature of both the locals and expatriates. I returned during the summer, enjoyed the pleasant climate, and decided that Ajijic was where I wanted to be. Consequently, in early 2008, my partner and I sold our possessions in Puerto Vallarta and moved to Ajijic. We invested in Casa Flores B&B and dedicated several years to building the business.
Ultimately, I decided to re-enter the real estate sector and joined the sales team at Fenix Real Estate. I aligned myself with Dixie Nicholson, a broker with nearly 30 years of experience in the Ajijic market. In my view, Dixie is one of the most knowledgeable individuals in the area concerning real estate and legal matters related to transactions.

Guide to Residency
Almost all foreigners in Mexico have residency via one of two routes. Economic solvency is the most common, meeting economic guidelines set by the federal government of Mexico. Family unity is the other option.
Economic Solvency is providing proof of savings/investments/other liquid assets over the last 12 months OR proving income for the previous 6 months.
Basic guidelines are approximately $70,000 US ENDING BALANCE each month for 12 months OR $4500/month NET income for 6 months.
Each consulate varies in their requirements. These numbers are an average to give one an idea of what may be needed. The consulate you choose to apply with can beat give you their most current numbers.
Home ownership does NOT automatically qualify anyone for residency. It’s actually suggested to buy AFTER obtaining residency.
Family unity is the process of an applicant applying for residency based on marriage or other familiar connections. (At this time adult children have no option for unity through a parent) Adult children CAN sponsor a parent, though. You will want to ask an immigration professional which documents you need to support these connections.
